Description
One of the best things about the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the sensational noise from the Ferrari V6 as it clears it’s throat and bleaches symphony akin to the late Mr. Pavarotti.
In short, SPECTACULAR!!
Unfortunately, the Alfa Romeo software engineers weren’t so clever when it came to when the exhaust valves would open and close, limiting the full noise to either above 4000 rpm in Dynamic or all the time in Race Mode.
It is logical that the valves must be permanently open in Race mode, but not everyone always wants to drive in Race only to enjoy the sound.
Besides the enthusiastic shifting behaviour in Race, perhaps the biggest issue and concern for the street is that Race Mode completely turns off all traction control aids.
So if you want the noise all the time, you’d need to drive in Race at great risk on the road.
Not anymore!!
Introducing the Exhaust Sound Controller v2 from Squadra Tuning, a OBD plug-in dongle that puts an end to this inconvenience.
- On the instrument cluster , in the speedometer, the ESC light flashes for 3 seconds to indicate that the system is active.
- The green LED lights up inside the Exhaust Sound Controller v2 dongle
- On the info line on the TFT screen between the speedo and RPM the text “Exhaust Valves opened” appears for a few seconds. The info line is only visible when the TFT screen setting is tuned to the digital speedo.
- The lane departure setting returns automatically into it’s original state.
Closing the valves is done in the same way; press the button for the lane departure for 2 seconds.
- On the dashboard, ESC OFF lights up continuously for 3 seconds
- The the green LED switched off.
- On the TFT screen the text “Exhaust valves closed” appears.

When the ignition is switched off and the Exhaust Sound Controller v2 dongle remains installed in the EOBD port, it remembers the last set position of the outlet valves.
The dongle is designed to be able to sit semi permanently. About 1 minute after the ignition is switched off, it falls into sleep mode to minimize power consumption to 15 mA. This allows the dongle to remain connected for several weeks without any problems.
In addition to this, the Exhaust Sound Controller v2 can be upgraded later to the Performance Datalogger if required.
